Short lead time secures orders for 16 scrubber pumps

Scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech has chosen Hamworthy Pumps as a pump supplier. Delivery time, price and reputation make the difference.

It is costly to send a ship to dry-dock. The shipowner wants the ship back in service as fast as possible, and the ability to deliver quickly and efficiently is a key competitive factor. For scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech, it was not least the ability to provide short lead times that led to the selection of Hamworthy Pumps as a pump supplier for scrubber installations on four crude oil tankers.
‘Hamworthy Pumps were able to offer a good delivery time that suited our project. That together with the price and excellent reputation of Hamworthy Pumps as a brand led us to our decision,’ says Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Commercial Director at Langh Tech.
Hamworthy Pumps has been chosen as supplier by Langh Tech for two separate projects, both involving the delivery of two ship sets, each including four pumps. The first order was delivered in late 2019, while the second is to be delivered during spring 2020.

More than 800 pumps supplied

Effective from 1 January 2020, the limit for sulphur in marine fuel has been reduced from 3.5% to 0.5%. In order to comply with the new, stricter rules, ships sailing on oil-based fuels can choose to switch to fuel with a lower sulphur content (LSFO), or they can choose to invest in a scrubber system, which cleans exhaust gas, and thereby continue to sail on HFO.
The anticipated growth in demand for scrubbers following the introduction of the 0.5% sulphur limit has been delayed due to the consequences of the COVID-19 virus. But the market is expected to pick up as global demand rises and the oil prices return to a higher price level.
At Hamworthy Pumps, the focus is on further growth as a supplier to the scrubber market after a tenfold increase in sales of scrubber pumps last year. Fewer than 4,000 of the world’s 50,000 merchant ships currently have a scrubber installed, so the market potential is huge.
With more than 800 pumps supplied for scrubber systems, Hamworthy Pumps have the experience and the products to cater to both open loop and closed/hybrid systems. The compact pumps are characterized by low NPSHr, high efficiency and reliability as well as low life cycle costs.
